Coach Hugh and Hugh X. and Winter
My name is Hugh Golden, and I will be head coach of the 2024 12U Hot Rods. My son, Hugh Xavier Golden, is in 6th Grade at Gorzycki Middle School. My wife, Winter helps us play baseball with snacks, drinks and a big speaker. I am originally from New York City and my favorite major league team is the New York Mets. My favorite food is Chicken Parmesan. In my day job, I teach people about cars and coach high performance driving. This is my seventh season as a head coach. My coaching philosophy is focused on challenging each young man to be the best version of themselves so collectively we are the best version of our team. I find success helps with learning. We strive to be competitive to maximize our growth. Baseball is important; however, engineering quality young men is the ultimate goal.
Coach Abe and Judah, Elia and Erin
Hi, I'm Abe Kant. I will be Priority Assistant Coach for the 2024 12U Hot Rods. I am a Texan. I was born in Houston. I have lived in Austin for 22 years with my wife Erin, our son Judah, and our daughter Elia. We love sports, travel, cooking, good gumbo, shark week on TV and family movie nights. Our son Judah has been playing baseball at Oak Hill for the past three years and loves being out on the field with his teammates. Our daughter Ellie is a budding softball player at Oak Hill. We are committed fans of the UT Longhorns Baseball team, the Astros and Austin FC.
I am excited to spend this spring coaching your kids in a game our family loves, baseball! I hope to encourage each one of your kids to grow their skills on the field, build friendships with their teammates and enhance their confidence in themselves and most importantly, to have fun playing this great game. I look forward to seeing you all out there!
Arrive Early to Start On Time!
Schedule - It's all in GameChanger - Watch your email for an invite
Practice
Arrive 5 minutes early so we start ON TIME
Check GameChanger for updates.
Attendence and participation at practice helps me decide batting order and what position you will be playing in our games.
We use our practice time and we practice hard, come fed, bring water and plan to play baseball until the end of practice. Parents, if you are leaving the field complex, please let me know and have another parent on point as an emergency contact.
Games
Please RSVP your player on Game Changer.
Games will be on Sunday, time TBD. Arrive 1 hour before scheduled game time, SEE GAME CHANGER
It is important that I know if you will be missing a game. YOUR team counts on you AND I make the line up and game plan the day before and last minute changes are very challenging.
If for some reason YOU know NOW that you will not be able to attend any game during the season please RSVP in Game Changer.
Communication
After practice, in person.
If you or your player would like to talk to the coaches about anything. Please remember we are volunteer unpaid parent coaches. Face to Face communication, in-person is best and most efficient. Generally, after practice is best.
Come prepared to share with us what you have been working on at home and how you think you can best help the team.
